ASTORIA LIBRARY RENOVATION | Astoria OR

Astoria Library was originally designed by Ebba Wicks Brown and was designed in the mid century Brutalist/International style. The exterior was showing it’s age and underwent both an interior and exterior facelift with design commencing in the summer of 2023. The project was completed in the fall of 2025 and we are thrilled with the results.

DELA Studio was brought on to revitalize the existing landscape as well as re-imagine the front entryway in coordination with Hennebery Eddy Architects. The project includes a modern acid etched entryway that was expanded to both create seating opportunities and more gracefully offer ADA access with the inclusion of a walkway separated from the street front by a narrow planter wall. The right of way was fully improved and re-energized by offering additional seating opportunities and reusing the existing raised planters which mirror the brutalist aesthetic found on the existing raised planter walls.

New plantings were provided with Vine Maples and a simplified palette of plants below them in the existing raised planters. Coral bark maples were planted in the right of way raised planters thereby revitalizing the aesthetic of the entryway.
