Smith Tower | Vancouver WA

DELA STUDIO collaborated with MWA Architects on a renovation of the historic Smith Tower in, a perfectly round tower which houses affordable rate apartments for the elderly and is unmissed in downtown Vancouver Washington. DELA Studio’s primary scope of work was a community courtyard roofdeck redesign over a parking garage and a stormwater sculpture and sunken garden which pedestrian cross over via a skybridge. This project is a totally fun project as the architecture has many retro style aesthetic features which were also infused into the community courtyard design.

The community courtyard includes pedestal porcelain pavers, metal planters around the perimeter which include small scale trees and drought tolerant plantings, cable trellises with vines around the entire south and eastern boundaries, a painted retro style cmu block wall, ample site furnishings and a shade sail to provide shelter from the sun in the hot summer months.
